An injury suffered by a draft prospect in a workout with the Spurs has an agent questioning the NBA’s pre-draft process.
Oklahoma forward Jalon Moore underwent successful surgery a day after tearing an Achilles tendon in a pre-draft workout in San Antonio, Moore’s agent, Mike Silverman of Equity Sports, confirmed to ESPN.
“We’re truly heartbroken for Jalon,” Silverman said, per ESPN. “It’s time to revamp the NBA pre-draft process. Flying around the country to perform intense competitive workouts exposes players to risk of major injuries.”
Moore’s workout with the Spurs was his 13th of the pre-draft process, ESPN reported. He had three more scheduled.
“No other pro sports league puts their draft prospects in this position,” Silverman told ESPN.
The Spurs declined to comment about the non-contact injury.
The injury dashed Moore’s hopes of either being selected late in the second round or earning a training camp invite.
The Spurs have three picks in Wednesday’s draft: Nos. 2, 14 and 38 overall.
Moore averaged 15.9 points and 5.8 rebounds as a senior last season at OU. He spent two seasons playing for the Sooners after playing his freshman and sophomore years at Georgia Tech.
