The prospects San Antonio should consider at fourteen

NCAA Basketball: Eastern Washington at Washington State

A look at the five players the Spurs should target with their second lottery selection.

With two picks in the 2025 NBA Draft lottery, the San Antonio Spurs have plenty of decisions to make. One is becoming more clear as we inch closer to draft night. It’s becoming evident that the Spurs will select Dylan Harper with the second overall pick, taking the best talent available to them with their top selection.

The fourteenth pick has been harder to pin down. It’s been unclear if they’ll even make the selection, as trade rumors have swirled around the pick, specifically surrounding a potential Kevin Durant trade. However, the asking price seems too high for the aging superstar, so San Antonio may actually pick a player at fourteen. But who? Here are a few players the Spurs should consider if they use their fourteenth selection.

Cedric Coward, 21-year-old 6’6” Wing, Washington State

6 games, 17.7 points, 7 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 55.7% FG, 40% 3PT, 83.9% FT

Coward has been the fastest riser in the 2025 draft thanks to his elite measurements, athletic tools, shooting ability, and some great interviews at the NBA Draft Combine. It’s funny to think what his stock would be if he had played a full senior season at Washington State. He only played 6 games before suffering a torn labrum in practice.

Coward would be an awesome off-ball player for San Antonio. He’s an instinctive cutter and a knockdown shooter. He has a lot of work to do to prove he can be an impactful scorer off the dribble, but he finishes well at the rim and hits threes at a high clip. The Spurs don’t need the fourteenth pick to be a go-to guy, with Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, and Stephon Castle handling more of the scoring load. Coward fits in well as a player with defensive upside and the potential to be an elite off-ball threat.

San Antonio would be betting on a small sample size with Coward, but he feels like the perfect Spur. He seems to be a high-character, unselfish player who can guard multiple positions. Coward would likely still go through some rookie growing pains defensively, especially off the ball, but his shooting would give the Spurs a player they could instantly plug into their wing rotation.

Carter Bryant, 19-year-old 6’8” Wing, Arizona

37 games, 6.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.9 stocks, 46% FG, 37.1% 3PT, 69.5% FT

Do you see the pattern here? Bryant is a long, high-upside three-and-D wing who can provide some shooting that the Spurs desperately need. He’s another fast riser in the draft who may not be available if the Spurs wind up picking at fourteen. Bryant had to cut his teeth on a good Arizona team in his freshman season, only starting 5 games, but proved himself to be a key piece of their NCAA Tournament run.

Bryant is a defensive dog. He’s strong, aggressive (maybe too aggressive as he struggles with fouls) and athletic. He could be a high-end defensive wing at the next level. The kicker, and what’s making him look more and more like a top-10 pick, is his ability to shoot the three. Bryant hit 37% of his catch and shoot threes at Arizona, and shot 41.4% from three on the EYBL circuit in high school. He’s got a pure stroke that looks translatable to the next level. It looks like there is some potential for him to eventually develop a pull-up jumper as well.

Bryant may not be ready to play a primary role yet, but he could be a contributor for the Spurs in year one, and a key developmental piece that would make the San Antonio a formidable defensive force alongside Wemby and Castle. This is a dream pick for the Silver and Black at fourteen, if he falls to them.

Egor Demin, 19-year-old 6’9” combo-wing, BYU

33 games, 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 41.2% FG, 27.3% 3PT, 69.5% FT

Demin is a bit different from the other wings on this list. He’s more of a point guard in a wing’s body, than a straight up three-and-D swingman. Demin was impressive in his freshman season operating out of the pick and roll, and finding his teammates as a passer. If the NBA Finals have taught us anything, it’s that having multiple playmakers on the court at once is hard to prepare for. Demin would give the Spurs a playmaker on the wing.

The issue with Demin is he didn’t shoot the ball from deep very well in his freshman season. Reports have said that teams are impressed with his shooting ability so far in pre-draft workouts. If that’s true, then Demin becomes a lot more interesting as a prospect. Still, questions remain. Will he be able to play off the ball well enough, rather than being a primary creator? Will he be able to create space for himself off the dribble in the NBA? What is Demin’s offensive role if he’s the 4th or even 5th option in a lineup?

All those questions aside, Demin just feels like a player the Spurs would like. He’s big, can play multiple positions, and passes the ball extremely well. He was productive in a good conference, and showed up on the biggest stage in the NCAA Tournament. San Antonio could take Demin and develop into a Swiss army knife of an offensive player that would grease the wheels of an offensive engine surrounding Wemby, Fox and Harper.

Danny Wolf, 21-year-old 7’0” Big, Michigan

37 games, 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 49.7% FG, 33.6% 3PT, 59.4% FT

The obvious need for San Antonio is a big man who can either back up, or play with Wembanyama. Wolf is a player who could probably do either in time. The versatile big can handle the ball on the perimeter and has good footwork to score around the basket. He looks comfortable taking shots from deep, but hasn’t been all that efficient in his three years of college ball. If he shoots it, he’d give the Spurs another versatile, offensive big man who can dish the rock and space the floor.

Wolf is a bit slow, and not particularly stout defensively. He’d fill a similar niche that Sandro Mamukelashvili does, just with more size. Personally, I think Mamu is a way more effective NBA player at 7 foot than 6-9. Wolf has the skill and basketball IQ to make an impact at the next level, despite his athletic shortcomings.

How San Antonio chooses to address their big man depth is one of the more interesting questions of the offseason. Rumors have swirled for three years now that they want a big who can also play alongside Wembanyama, but the most effective lineups in Wemby’s career have been with him at center. Drafting someone like Wolf would be a clear indication that San Antonio is keen to play a double-big lineup with two posts who can dribble, pass and shoot.

Joan Beringer, 18-year-old 7’0” Big, Cedevita Olimpija (France)

64 games, 5.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 64.4% FG, 56.6% FT

A Frenchman to the Spurs? How cliche. In an opposite move from drafting Wolf, taking Beringer would be a bet on high upside and athletic tools. Beringer has great size and length for a big man at 6’11” with a 7’5” wingspan, he runs the floor well and floats to the rim for athletic dunks. He’s an awesome shot blocker for his age. Beringer could be a real rim running, paint defending threat as he matures.

He’s still a bit raw, and offensively he relies on rim runs, dump offs and lobs. If the Spurs select Beringer at 14, it would likely be a stash and development play, and they’ll address the back up big man position in free agency. Long term, having Beringer come off the bench to keep rim protection at a high while Wembanyama sits would make the Spurs a much better defensive team.

Beringer is quickly moving up draft boards. I’d keep an eye out on Atlanta at 13 as a team that could use a defensive big, and could snatch him before the Spurs could take him. He’s certainly a name to watch for them at the end of the lottery.
