Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is apparently itching for a little basketball competition after having lost a good chunk of his sophomore season to a blood clot in his shoulder.
According to a story first reported on KSAT.com, the 7-foot-3 budding superstar spotted teen Miller Borushko shooting hoops in his North Side neighborhood and decided to challenge him to a game of H.O.R.S.E.
“He walked up and asked my name," Miller told KSAT.com. "I said, ‘I’m Miller.’ And he was like, ‘I’m Victor.’ I tried to stay chill about it.”
Chill he remained. Because while Wembanyama was the first to hit all five shots — finishing with a left-handed three-pointer — Borushko comported himself well, dropping a pair of baskets to earn the H and the O.
Borushko said Wembanyama didn’t have a basketball with them, so the shootaround appears to have been a spur-of-the-moment thing.
“It was really awesome,” Borushko told KSAT anchor reporter Myra Arthur. “I still don’t think I’ve actually completely comprehended how crazy it was. I got really lucky.”
According to Borushko, Wembanyama was with one woman he said he suspects is the player’s mother and another younger girl.
Although it’s unknown why Wembanyama was in the neighborhood, word quickly spread and, before long, the players had an audience of about 15. That was apparently enough for Wembanyama, who told Borushko he was going to leave.
But not before the two took a selfie together, proof that Borushko had gone one-on-one with the player many expect will soon be the face of the NBA.
