Saturday night ended badly for Showtime
On Saturday, in the fourth and final game of the day, the Lakers hosted the Timberwolves. The Lakers started strong with Luka Doncic scoring fifteen in the first frame, giving Los Angeles the lead. From there on out it was all Minnesota, rocking the Lakers on their home court in prime time.
It was so bad that the Lakers put up the white flag in the fourth with three minutes left giving Bronny James his first taste of the postseason. Had LeBron been in better spirits, he could have stayed on the court and added “first father and son to share the court in the postseason” to his impressive set of accolades.
From a Spurs perspective, there are no players or coaching staff members with ties to San Antonio, unless you count the Lakers being rivals of the Silver & Black during the turn of the century. For a fan of my age, that’s reason enough to root for the T-Wolves.
But I can go one deeper.
In my humble opinion, one of the most interesting Finals matchups consist of the Timberwolves facing the New York Knicks. The idea that the two teams who traded with one another to improve their chances at winning could meet face to face for the grand prize is enough for me to entertain the Timberwolves upsetting the Lakers.
The fact that they upset them in Game 1 just reinforces the sport.
Prediction: Timberwolves in 6.
Who am I rooting for: Timberwolves.
Reason: The Lakers getting Doncic was unreal. Bringing Los Angeles back to reality seems to be the best use of checks and balances the universe could offer.
