Highlights: Spurs cap season finale with riveting comeback victory
Keep practicing. Never let someone tell you you’re too small or too slow.
This season could have been worse, it certainly could have been a lot better—but definitely could be a lot worse. The Spurs improved their win total from last season (have to walk before you crawl as they say . . .), Gregg Popovich’s absence could be felt (but thank goodness he seems to be recovering, which is all that matters), Victor Wembanyama’s blood clot diagnosis put a damper on a promising post All-Star push, (thank goodness his condition was caught promptly in hopes of a full recovery) (accordingly, Wembanyama definitely looks the part of another Spurs great in a long line of greats when he did play), De’Aaron Fox will be a part of this team for the entire season next year, and if one rookie-of-the-year player isn’t enough how about two in as many seasons?
Things are certainly looking up with more certainty, at least compared to last year’s questions (is Wemby going to get help via the draft or free agency?) and especially compared to the year before (ARE WE EVEN GOING TO GET WEMBY? WHAT ARE THE ODDS?). For this season at least, the good guys put on a thrilling cap on the season with a win. Keldon Johnson led the team with 23 points on 10 - 14 shooting, while Stephon Castle contributed 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.
You can’t deny Keldon Johnson, you can only hope to contain him, but you can’t contain Keldon Johnson, you can only hope to slow him down, but you can’t slow Keldon Johnson down, you can only hope that we all get caught in the wake of his hustle to motivate us to finally do our taxes.

Never make a pass while jumping, unless you’re Sandro Mamukelashvili and you knew exactly where you wanted to weave this pass to an open Blake Wesley.

We need more graphics during games like “yoink!” for steals, “splash” for 3-point shots, “womp womp” for turnovers (or flops), and “BOOMSHAKALAKA” when a player is on an absolute NBA Jam heater. In this case, Wesley yoinked the ball and went the other way for an easy bucket.

Keldon Johnson slogged his way through a sea of defenders for this tough bucket. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for KJ as his energy, hustle, and capability for volume scoring is valuable for any team. In a storm of uncertainty and injuries, Johnson was the one constant the Spurs had this season and in recent memory.

I’m about the same age as Chris Paul (shhh), and my knees hurt just watching him go into his bag of tricks to beat his defender off the dribble for the jumper. Here’s hoping CP3 comes back next season, but if he doesn’t, all the young Spurs benefited from playing alongside a hall-of-famer (he’s going to the Lakers next season—you heard it here first if it happens, if it doesn’t I do not have any recollection of saying that).

Playing all 82 games is no small feat. Impressive that “grizzled” vets Harrison Barnes and Chris Paul accomplished this at their “advanced” age. Goes to show you how injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, and ultimate competitors like Paul would have played in all of those playoff games if his body, you know, allowed him to play at the level he expected.

If you missed the game because you were too busy eating a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich, here are the full-game highlights:
I want to thank our fearless leader and EIC, J.R. Wilco, for once again giving me the opportunity to share our love of the Spurs with fellow fans. Cannot wait for what next season holds!
Next up, the Spurs will have a strong draft, come back healthier, hungrier, and ready for a playoff berth! Cheers and GSG!
