Spurs and USAA celebrate military members & their families

The San Antonio Spurs and USAA announced their plans to honor the military community this week with a special Lil’ MVPs basketball clinic for children of local service members and Military Appreciation Night presented by USAA on Friday, March 14. These two events are part of the extended military appreciation efforts from the Spurs and USAA, the Spurs Official Military Appreciation Partner.
Last Tuesday, children of military members stationed in San Antonio participated in the annual Lil’ MVPs basketball clinic presented by USAA with Spurs Sports Academy. The clinic was led by Spurs coaching staff members as well as Julian Champagnie, who hosted an autograph session, locker room tour, and photo opportunity for the youngsters.
Military Appreciation Night presented by USAA – Friday, March 14
Military Appreciation Night will takes place tonight as the Spurs host the Charlotte Hornets, with tip-off at 7 p.m. This longstanding tradition celebrates local military members, veterans and their families.
- Giveaway: Military Appreciation Night will start with a free military-themed Coyote bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 military ID holders and/or USAA members who enter through the USAA NE VIP entrance at the northeast corner of the Frost Bank Center. The team’s five NBA championship trophies will be on display outside Section 106 for fans to take photos.
- In-game: The game will tip off with a National Anthem performance from Technical Sergeant Margaret N Tysgankov and a joint service honor guard that includes members from all six branches presenting the colors. Twenty-five recruits from the Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Space Force, Army and Texas Army National Guard will be honored as they take the oath of service during a special swearing-in ceremony at halftime. A military themed photo opportunity will be located at Section 208 for any fan to take pictures.
- Military discounts: Military ID holders can receive discounts of up to 40% off their tickets and 15% off purchases in the Spurs Fan Shop for Military Appreciation Night and they are always invited to use the USAA NE VIP military entrance at the northeast corner of the Frost Bank Center.
