Teams are creating opportunities with the intent of widening their fanbases

Here’s a story that you may have overlooked.

Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia recently — December 19th to be exact — made changes to the pricing at the Footprint Center.

The Suns introduced a $2 value menu, available for all home games at concession stands throughout the arena, of the five-most popular food and beverage items that people consume during a sporting event, not including alcoholic beverages.

All hot dogs, popcorn, bags of chips, 16oz Dasani water bottles, and 16oz fountain drinks are now just $2:

In a tweet, Ishbia explained:

“A family of 4 used to spend $98 on hot dogs/water/popcorn. Now they can enjoy that same meal for $24. Our fans and community are the foundation of what we do and we will continue to invest in making this the best organization in all of basketball, on and off the court.”

Owners and teams should remember that fans come from all demographics and many never have the opportunity to experience a game in person because of the cost. Discounted ticket nights and food vouchers make the excursion more affordable.

Keep your eyes open, the Spurs often package discounted seating with food tickets.

Every little bit helps.
