Highlights: De’Aaron Fox drops team-high 23 points in loss to Celtics
Spurs head into the ASB with more questions than answers.
Coming off a much-needed win against the Washington Wizards, the Spurs traveled to Boston to take on the Celtics. The Spurs fell behind in the first, which was tough to recover from. They were outscored 37-19 in the first and were down as much as 24 in the first half. However, the Spurs attempted a comeback that got them within single digits early in the fourth. Unfortunately, the Celtics just countered with runs of their own. The Spurs’ biggest flaw was shooting an abysmal 23% from three. The Celtics won 116-103.
De’Aaron Fox led the way with 23 points on an efficient 10 of 16 from the field, five assists, and three rebounds. Fox provided much-needed efficiency when the Spurs were putting up bricks for most of the game. His game is so lighting quick, it’s starting to remind Spurs fans of Tony Parker.
Take him to school! Fox puts former Spur Derrick White to work as he nails the quick turnaround jumper in his face!

Victor Wembanyama dropped a double-double: 17 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four assists and two blocks. After a great offensive performance last game, Vic returned to his sub-20 point struggles. Hopefully, he enjoys competing in the Skills Challenge with CP3 and his first All-Star Game during the break because come February 19th, the Spurs need him to be 100% for a playoff push.

That Wemby block made it 85 games in a row with a block! It’s the longest streak since Dikembe Mutombo in the 1995-96 season.

Stephon Castle had a solid game off the bench with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Steph was out there picking pockets and slamming dunks! Mitch Johnson said after the game that the team will evaluate lineups during the ASB. Could this mean Steph gets put back in the starting lineup?
Too easy! After CP3 picks Porzingis’s pocket, he leads the pass for Steph to throw it down with ease!

All in all, the Spurs battled the former NBA champs and were quickly outmatched. Despite a late comeback attempt, this Celtics team is too well-rounded. The Spurs didn’t do themselves any favors by starting the game down by 18 in the first, and by shooting ice-cold from three. Right now, this team isn’t the Celtics, and that’s okay. Post ASB will show Spurs fans whether this team will be serious about making a playoff push, or just be content with current draft position.
Finally, here are the full game highlights.
The Spurs’ next game is February 20th in Austin versus the Phoenix Suns at 8:30 P.M. (CST) on TNT. Enjoy Steph Castle, Wemby, and CP3 this All-Star Weekend on TNT!
