Wembanyama no stranger to foes in first All-Star Game semifinal
Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will face some familiar foes in the first semifinal game of the NBA All-Star Game mini-tournament Feb. 16 in San Francisco.
The NBA on Tuesday night revealed via TNT the semifinal matchups and team names for the event.
Kenny’s Young Stars, named for Kenny Smith, will square off against Chuck’s Global Stars, which includes Wembanyama, in the first semifinal.
Kenny’s Young Stars includes three players from the Western Conference that Wembanyama knows well: Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards, Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr. and Oklahoma City’s Jalen Williams.
The other members of that squad include New York’s Jalen Brunson, Detroit’s Cade Cunningham, Cleveland’s Darius Garland, Miami’s Tyler Herro and Cleveland’s Evan Mobley.
In addition to Wembanyama, Chuck’s Global Stars, named for Charles Barkley, includes Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell, Houston’s Alperen Sengun, Indiana’s Pasal Siakam, New York’s Karl-Anthony Towns and Atlanta’s Trae Young.

Candace’s Rising Stars, named for Candace Parker, will be the champion of the Rising Stars tournament Friday night. Spurs rookie Stephon Castle is a participant in that event.
The semifinal winners will advance to meet in the championship. For all three games, the first team to 40 points wins.
