Coming off a tough loss to the Orlando Magic this past Saturday, the Spurs took on the Washington Wizards as the Rodeo Road Trip continues. After going on a 22-0 run during the first quarter, the Spurs only took a 40-30 lead after one. The Wizards went on a run of their own and outscored the Spurs 33-26 in the second. The third quarter was offense-heavy for both teams as the Spurs led 100-96 going into the fourth. After some close calls, the Spurs finally built some cushion on their lead, ultimately winning 131-121.
Victor Wembanyama had a fantastic game with 31 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals. He played a team-high 38 minutes, including the entire fourth quarter, in what is sure to be an encouraging sign heading into the ASB. He appeared to be more active on offense and had a few pick-and-roll connections with his new all-star running mate in De’Aaron Fox.

Even though this was a double-digit win, it felt like a close game for most of it. When you’re playing a depleted Wizards team, you’re expected to take care of business early. It looked like the Spurs were on pace to do so in the first, but puzzling rotations let the Wizards back into the game. Sooner or later, coach Mitch Johnson is going to have to bench Chris Paul for either Steph or Jeremy.
