Potential 2025 Draft Picks for the San Antonio Spurs

The 2024/25 NBA regular season is well underway and proving to be another interesting year for Spurs fans. Although there’s been a definite upturn from last year’s blowout, the side is still maddeningly inconsistent. To be fair, this should be expected with a bunch of young players on the roster and the long-term plan coach Gregg Popovich has for the team.

Although there are lots of games to play in 24/25, this has left some fans already looking ahead to next year’s draft. If the best young talent can combine with the extra experience people like Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle have next season, it could be a great time for basketball in San Antonio.

But who might the side pick-up in 2025’s NBA Draft?

What do the bookies say?

One of the best ways to get a feel for who the Spurs might pick in the 2025 Draft is by looking at what the bookmakers think to start with.

Lots of sportsbooks offer a variety of draft markets now and some are already taking wagers on who will be the number one pick or where the best college players might land. If you plan to bet on the upcoming draft yourself, just remember to check out AskGamblers as you are able to register with a sportsbook that has the most appealing features to use.

Although we don’t know exactly the order sides will pick as yet, it’s likely that the hottest prospects as flagged by the bookies could be gone before the Spurs grab them. This means the very best college talent such as Cooper Flagg or Ace Bailey might be out of reach – unless there is a serious Spurs collapse during the rest of the regular season.

Due to this, it could instead be high-level talent the bookies list as being outside the top 5 picks which offer more gettable targets. But who might this be?

Kon Knueppel – Duke

Although expected number one pick Cooper Flagg might be getting most of the attention at Duke, his teammate Kon Knueppel is certainly one of the top potential 2025 draft picks for the Spurs. He’s likely to go around the ninth or tenth pick come draft day, and this makes him a realistic prospect for the side to grab.

Knueppel stands at 6 feet 7 inches and has a game which seems tailor made for the NBA. He not only racks up points regularly for Duke with his shot making but passes well off the screen and doesn’t make many mistakes.

His size gives him the raw physicality to cope with the pro game and his perimeter shooting is decent. Knueppel would be a superb addition to the Spurs at shooting guard or small forward with his very promising all-round play.

Liam McNeeley – UConn

The latest Spurs news might be focused on the current slew of regular season games but talk of who might come in the 2025 draft is heating up. One area which the Spurs still need help is more consistent attacking threat in wider positions. UConn’s Liam McNeeley could be the ideal solution and someone who should be a realistic target.

Weighing in at 210 pounds and standing at 6 feet 7 inches, he has the size to cause teams problems and impose himself defensively. The culture around UConn also seems similar to the culture Popovich has built in San Antonio.

This should mean McNeeley is ready-made to slot in and start having an impact almost immediately. Picking up this player could be a smart move in terms of giving coach Popovich more consistent shooting threats in attack. The 27 points McNeeley dropped on Gonzaga recently shows he knows where the basket is.

Drake Powell – North Carolina

Another player who could really add more quality to the team in forward positions is North Carolina’s Drake Powell. He would represent something of a coup and is a genuine two-way player out wide. His defensive work stands out the most and he has the agility to defend the perimeter well. In addition, his plays in transition could add extra spark to the Spurs on-court flow and give them greater fluidity to attack sides with.

Jeremiah Fears – Oklahoma

Although the Spurs may well use the upcoming draft to add more options in the forward positions, don’t be shocked to see them do the same at guard. Chris Paul can’t go on forever after all and this means an elite-level talent might be brought in now to learn from his experience.

There’s no doubt Fears has athleticism and energy around the court which would make him valuable to any NBA team. He also possesses a good turn of speed and great playmaking abilities to execute his side’s offensive strategy. Add in a knack for scoring jumpers plus finishing moves off skillfully in the lane and you can see why the Spurs might be seriously looking at him.

Egor Demin – BYU

Point guard Demin hails from Russia originally and, whilst he plays for BYU currently, this makes him just the sort of international-style talent the Spurs thrive on discovering. As with Jeremiah Fears, he would certainly add more depth to the guard position for Popovich to choose from.

Although he might stand at a gigantic 6 feet 9 inches, Demin is about much more than pure size. He has exquisite passing and can find teammates regularly to create chances for them. He is no slouch when it comes to shooting either and can hit shots from beyond the arc with ease. Although he might need to brush up on his defensive game a little for the pro league, the upside with Demin is huge and this could see the Spurs swoop in.

2025 NBA Draft: Who might the Spurs go for?

It might seem way too early to talk about the upcoming draft in 2025 yet, with so many games left to play in the current season and not knowing which order sides will pick in. Despite this, looking ahead to which top college players could come in and improve the Spurs is worthwhile. There are certainly some realistic targets in positions where the side needs more oomph, and it will be interesting to see who ends up in San Antonio when the smoke has cleared.
