The Spurs will be without starting power forward Jeremy Sochan when they face the Nuggets on Friday night in Denver.
Sochan was ruled out Thursday afternoon after he missed the second half of Tuesday’s 122-86 romp over the Los Angeles Clippers due to a tight lower back.
A Baylor alumnus in his third season with the Spurs after they selected him ninth overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, Sochan is averaging a career-best 13.9 points, a career-high 8.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists over 20 games with 17 starts.
Sochan missed 13 games between Nov. 6 and Dec. 1 after fracturing his left thumb on Nov. 4 in a 113-104 loss to the Clippers in Los Angeles.
The Spurs (17-16) are 9-11 this season with Sochan and 8-5 without him.
Rookie Stephon Castle, who the Spurs selected fourth overall in the draft last June, is expected to start in place of Sochan after the Connecticut-ex started the second half against Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The Spurs had seven games with their preferred starting lineup of Chris Paul, Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Sochan and Victor Wembanyama before Sochan was ruled out Friday.
Sochan’s next chance to play will be Saturday night, when the Spurs host the Nuggets.
