Open Thread: One revelation regarding Chris Paul’s ejection
Paul watched most of Friday night’s game from the locker room, a situation he does not often experience
Last Friday, Chris Paul was ejected from the game in Portland. While his first outburst could be construed as a typical technical-worthy call, it was unclear what led to the second that sent him to the locker room.
Interestingly, he ended the night with 5 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Add in the 2 techs and he might be the first player in history to tally a 5-4-3-2-1.
A social media post revealed he said “You acting like the police!” but I have not seen an official site confirm that. If it is true, it might be one of the lighter reactions to earn a technical foul.
Even as I write this, I am watching the Thunder and Rockets play a rough Emirates Cup game. Both teams have been yelling at the refs for no calls and bad calls. Most with much more gusto that Paul’s offense.
And to take it a step further, by the temperament that got Paul ejected, Draymond Green should seldom see the second quarter of any NBA game.
Historically speaking, only one other member of the Spurs has been ejected on lesser crimes.
Back in 2007, Duncan received two technical fouls while on the bench and was ejected in the final minutes of the third quarter as the Spurs faced the Mavericks in Dallas.
What makes Chris Paul’s ejection interesting? This is only the seventh time CP3 has been ejected. Get that? In a total of 1,297 games, he has been eligible to finish 1,290.
Paul, known for his antagonistic attitude and on-court antics, should be more familiar with being sent off the court. The ejection should prove the rule and not the exception.
The good news is the Spurs pulled off the win despite being short five players — four to injury and Paul to the mood of the referee.
Even better, Paul will be on the court tonight to make up for lost time.
