“He is a very, very good shooter, and we want him to take the appropriate 3-pointers whenever he has the opportunity to,” Johnson said. “And he has been doing that and hopefully he will continue to.”

Wembanyama also had 16 rebounds and seven blocks to join Brook Lopez as the only players in NBA history to notch six 3s and seven blocks in a game.

Castle comes up big in final stanza
Rookie Stephon Castle was at his best in the fourth quarter Saturday, scoring 10 points on the strength of 3 for 6 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line.
“Definitely appreciative to be out there,” he said. “That just shows the trust the coaching staff has in me.”
Although he led the team in scoring in the final period, Castle said he was focused primarily on getting stops.
“I feel like defense in those moments is what is most important,” he said. “But definitely appreciative to be out there in those moments. It shows a lot of trust.”
In a season-high 35 minutes, Castle was 8 for 16 from the floor, 3 for 7 from beyond the arc and 4 for 5 from the free-throw line. He finished with 23 points.
His three 3s were a season high. He connected on 42.8% from deep after coming into the game shooting just 12.5% (3 of 24).
“I have been in the gym working on it a lot,” Castle said. “My guys have been in the gym with me. We are all confident in each other to shoot the ball no matter who it is. We get an open one, we are told we have got to shoot it. So, just stepping up and shooting it with confidence. Like I said earlier, my teammates and coaches have a lot of confidence in me to take those shots. So, just going to continue to keep doing it.”
Former Spurs back in town
Spurs backup center Zach Collins is eager to see his friend and former teammate Doug McDermott on Monday night when the Spurs host the Kings.
McDermott played three seasons with the Spurs before they traded him to Indiana in February. Sacramento signed the 10-year veteran to a one-year deal in October.
“Everybody loves Doug,” Collins said. "He is one of the better teammates you will ever find and a really good person. He also just plays hard as (expletive). I loved playing with him. I think him and I played well together, got each other a lot of open looks because he draws so much attention and I was able to find that pocket. Everyone knows him as a shooter, but he was a willing passer in those situations.
“We miss him over here for how well he played but also because he is a good dude.”
While McDermott has played sparingly for the Kings, another former Spur ranks as one of their key players. DeMar DeRozan, who played three season with San Antonio before it shipped him to Chicago in a sign-and-trade deal in 2021, entered Sunday’s game at Phoenix averaging 24.2 points, 4.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals.
