In yet another sign that Devin Vassell could return soon, the Spurs announced Tuesday that he’s been assigned to the Austin Spurs to work out with the G League club during its training camp this week at the Victory Capital Performance Center.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said Monday the club is hopeful the fourth-year guard can return during the first week of November. Vassell has been sidelined since undergoing surgery in June to repair his injured right foot.
The Spurs also assigned Sidy Cissoko to Austin to give him more reps. The second-year forward has yet to play this season despite Popovich raving about his skills during the preseason.
“He’s got talent coming out of his body in every pore,” Popovich said of the team’s other Frenchman. “It’s just a matter of corralling all that, channeling it. He is a very young man, but he is very committed, focused, wants to be a good player, works hard at practice. He is going to be a good part of our program for a long time.”
Two-way contract players Harrison Ingram, a second-round guard/forward, David Duke Jr. and Riley Minix were also assigned to Austin. Fifth-year guard Malachi Flynn, who played for the Spurs in the preseason on a training camp contract, is also on Austin’s camp roster.
