Although the full NBA schedule for the 2024-25 season isn’t expected to be released until next week, a league source confirmed Thursday night the Spurs will play in one of the five games scheduled for Christmas Day.
The Spurs face the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden as part of the marquee holiday lineup, the source said.
It is the first time the Spurs have received a coveted Christmas Day game since 2016 when they beat the Chicago Bulls at the AT&T Center on their way to a 61-21 record in a season that ended with a loss to Golden State in the Western Conference Finals.
Overall, the Spurs have played in 11 Christmas Day games, going 5-6 in those matchups. It used to be a regular occurrence for a Tim Duncan-powered franchise that won five NBA titles between 1999 and 2014, the first of which came against the Knicks.
The other Christmas Day games this season reportedly will include Minnesota at Dallas, Philadelphia at Boston, the Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State, and Denver at Phoenix.
