In an expected move, the Spurs announced Monday the signing of rookie Harrison Ingram to a two-way contract.
The addition of the second-round pick fills the Spurs’ three two-way slots after they signed journeymen guards Jamaree Bouyea and David Duke Jr. earlier this month.
Harrison, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound guard/forward from North Carolina, is expected to see plenty of time with the Austin Spurs in the G League this season.
“Whatever it takes, whether it’s the G League to stay with the main team, I’m ready to do it to achieve my dreams," he said while practicing with the Spurs’ Summer League squad.
In his two seasons at Stanford, the versatile Ingram frequently handled the ball and initiated the offense. After transferring to North Carolina, the Dallas native played as an undersized power forward, stretching the floor with his ability as a catch-and-shoot 3-point threat.
He averaged 12.2 points and 8.8 rebounds as a junior with the Tar Heels while sinking 38.9% of his 3-point attempts.
“(At North Carolina), he went from more of a primary to a secondary player,” Spurs general manager Brian Wright said. “It’s not easy to transition your game that way, and he did a great job adding to that team. That’s what you like about him.”
Harrison played well for the Spurs’ Summer League squad, helping the unit to a 4-1 record in Las Vegas, where he averaged 10.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 28.6 minutes. In three games at the Sacramento California Classic, he averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
