Spurs set to face top pick Risacher in summer league action
A game against the Atlanta Hawks and No. 1 overall draft pick Zaccharie Risacher headlines the Spurs summer league schedule.
The Spurs squad, which should include fourth overall pick Stephon Castle, will face the Hawks at 7 p.m. on July 14 in Las Vegas, the NBA announced Friday. ESPN2 is scheduled to broadcast the game.
The Spurs also play at least three other games in Vegas: vs. Portland at 8 p.m. on July 13 (ESPN2), against New Orleans at 9:30 p.m. on July 16 (NBA TV) and vs. Philadelphia at 7:30 p.m. July 19 (NBA TV).
All of those contests will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center.
All 30 NBA teams are slated to participate in the Vegas tournament July 12-22 on the campus of UNLV. All 76 games of the 11-day competition will air live on ESPN platforms or NBA TV. Each outing will also be available to stream on the ESPN app.
Every team will play at least five games, including four games from July 12-19. After the first four games, the top four teams will advance to participate in the playoffs.
The 26 teams that do not advance to the four-team playoff will play a fifth game either July 20 or July 21.
The Spurs will tune up for Vegas by playing three games at the California Classic in Sacramento, Calif.: against Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on July 6 (NBA TV), vs. Sacramento at 9 p.m. on July 7 (ESPN2) and vs. a team from China at 7 p.m. July 9 (NBA TV).
All games in Sacramento will be played at the Golden 1 Center.
In addition to Castle, the Spurs summer league roster will include second-round pick Harrison Ingram and two-way players David Duke Jr., RaiQuan Gray and Jamaree Bouyea.
The Spurs’ other second-round pick, Juan Nunez, will not participate in summer league because of his commitment to help Spain in its bid to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
Second-year forward Sidy Cissoko underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last month to clean up some lingering damage to it and won’t be available to play in Sacramento. Cissoko is expected to participate in the three-day training camp for the summer league squad that begins Monday with the hope he will be ready for action in Vegas.
“The goal is for Sidy to be back and play in the summer league, so he’s working diligently to do that, to be ready to go,” Wright said.
Third-year guards Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley will not be part of the summer league team after participating the last two years, Wright said.
The Spurs’ full summer league roster is expected to be announced soon. The squad is slated to begin workouts Monday at the Victory Capital Performance Center.
First round pick Stephon Castle, right, and the Spurs summer league squad will square up with No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher and the Hawks on July 14 in Las Vegas.
Zaccharie Risacher is the second consecutive No. 1 overall pick from France, following the Spurs’ selection of Victor Wembanyama in 2023.
