Spurs watch party at Frost Bank Center erupts for OT win

San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama (1) struck a pose after a key blocked shot, cheered on by the Spurs bench during the second overtime of Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Monday, May 18, 2026. The Spurs defeated the Thunder 122-115 in double overtime.

About 8,000 Spurs fans transformed Frost Bank Center into a playoff atmosphere Monday night as San Antonio outlasted Oklahoma City in double overtime.

Kicking off the Western Conference Finals, fans crowded the sections with the best views of the massive jumbotron. Spurs MC Chuck kept the energy high throughout the night.

Supporters arrived decked out in silver-and-black jerseys, sporting foam fingers, towels, flags and Fiesta-colored bandanas. The E7 Band entertained the crowd before tipoff and during halftime with Selena and Rihanna sing-alongs.

The Spurs Coyote and Hype Squad roamed the arena as fans of all ages — from toddlers to seniors — filled Frost Bank Center for the free watch party.

Inside the arena, the energy swung wildly throughout a tense back-and-forth battle between the Spurs and Thunder.

Boos rained down whenever Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Chet Holmgren touched the ball, while Thunder guard Alex Caruso became one of the biggest villains of the night by hitting key 3-pointers over and over.

Fans erupted into chants of “Wemby MVP” every time Victor Wembanyama stepped to the free-throw line.

As the game tightened late, nearly everyone in the building — down to the ushers and arena staff — stood frozen with their eyes glued to the jumbotron.

The loudest moment of the night came when Wembanyama buried a game-tying 3-pointer from near the logo late in regulation, sending Frost Bank Center into chaos and forcing overtime.

Then came double overtime.

Once the Spurs took control, towels flew through the air as strangers hugged and screamed through the final seconds of the 122-115 win.

Wembanyama finished with 41 points and 24 rebounds as San Antonio stole Game 1 on the road.

Honk, honk, honk

Outside the arena after the game, honking cars circled the streets surrounding Frost Bank Center as fans spilled into the night celebrating the victory.

Among them were Jonathan Kressbach and Diego Ortiz — both members of the Jackals supporters group — alongside their friend Darim Alam, who they hope joins the group next season.

“We took it away from them in their place,” Alam said with a grin. “That’s a huge confidence booster. Without Fox, we still won the game. No one expected that from us.”

Kressbach said the atmosphere inside and outside Frost Bank Center showed how much the playoff run has energized the city.

“You hear the honking everywhere,” Kressbach said as car horns blasted nearby. “This arena wasn’t even full and it was loud. The Rock is packed. Downtown is packed. It just shows how much this city loves this team.”

As a Jackals member, Kressbach said Monday’s victory felt especially meaningful after watching the Spurs evolve into contenders over the course of the season.

“We’ve been at every game watching this team fight and grow,” he said. “They said we didn’t have the experience. They said Wemby couldn’t play 40 minutes. They said we couldn’t do it without Fox. We just keep proving everybody wrong.”

Ortiz said taking Game 1 in Oklahoma City changed the feel of the series entirely.

“This team is built different,” Ortiz said. “One of our star players goes down and we still win this game on the road? That changes momentum right there.”

He said the energy inside the watch party made the game feel even bigger.

“Everybody was locked in,” Ortiz said. “You could feel every possession. Sky’s the limit for this team.”
