Victor Wembanyama ‘happy’ for help in finding missing Chicago man

Victor Wembanyama is urging the public to help find Elijah Hoard, who went missing after being dropped off at Chicago O’Hare Airport.
Spurs all-star Victor Wembanyama is grateful for the public’s help in finding a 23-year-old man who disappeared after being dropped off at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

Spurs Victor Wembanyama is urging the public to help find Elijah Hoard, who went missing after being dropped off at Chicago O’Hare Airport.
Elijah Hoard, 23, was last seen on Friday when his father took him to the airport for a flight back to France after a 10-day visit in Chicago, according to a Yahoo News report. He never checked in for the flight and did not board the plane.
Hoard was discovered alive and well on Tuesday night, Wembanyama said.
“He just got found, like one hour ago,” Wembanyama told reporters in Philadelphia after the Spurs’ victory over the 76ers. “I’m so happy.”
In an Instagram story Monday, Wembanyama wrote to his 5.3 million followers, “Our friend (Elijah) has been missing from Chicago O’Hare since February 27th. If you have any information, please reach out to local authorities."
On Tuesday, Wembanyama shared an update on Instagram, saying Hoard had been seen on surveillance cameras in Rosemont, a suburb of Chicago, walking toward another area. He said widespread media coverage and social media shares have drawn the attention of both French and U.S. authorities, and that tips from people who recognized Hoard in the streets have led to reported sightings.
“Please keep sharing. The visibility is making a real difference,” Wembanyama wrote.
Elijah Hoard’s father, Antwon Hoard, told Yahoo News that his son’s bags were never registered and he never completed the check-in process.
Antwon Hoard also said his son struggles with mental illness and had become reluctant to return home in the final days of his trip.
“Everything seemed pretty normal the first eight days, but the last two days his whole mood had swung, and he was really adamant about not going back home, and he didn’t want to go home,” he said, according to Yahoo News.
Wembanyama said Tuesday he was thankful for the positive resolution to Hoard’s case.
“We’ve been close for a long time, his family and mine,” Wembanyama said. "We always think it happens to others. That was the first time I saw this case for a person close to me. I’m just very, very relieved.”
